Currently we divert over 82% of everything we uplift from landfill. Check out how we do it.
Strong partnerships with local charities and other local community-based organisations enable us to redistribute items of potential value, such as clothing and furniture, to people who can benefit.
These can be materials such as timber, metals, paper, and cardboard.
What happens to my good junk?
We partner with various charitable organisations to which we donate any useable furniture that we collect. Some very well known organisations such as the British heart foundation and Oxfam benefit from donations of books/clothing and bric a brack whilst our useable furniture is donated to the Glasgow and Edinburgh Furniture initiatives that assist low income families furnish their homes.
One of our primary goals is to increase landfill diversion. We can do this a number of ways. We only purchase new low emission vehicles. We only use transfer stations with particularly high onsite recycling rates. We donate as many useable items as we possibly can. Our offices are as paper free as possible and have been kitted out by recycled items from our office clearances. We meet on a regular basis with The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) to ensure that we are up to date with any changes in legislation and doing everything we possibly can to help the environment.
How we do it
We keep waste product heading to landfill to the very minimum.
Our waste collections are segregated at our depot into separate areas for recycling – wood, metal etc. We also recycle WEEE which is carefully managed to ensure there is no impact to the environment and our strict targets.
It’s not always possible to properly separate different items for specific recycling. In this instance, we take this the relevant waste transfer stations who prioritise waste for energy incinerators.
Impact on the Environment
To minimise the impact on the environment, office furniture and equipment collected by Dumpit’s clearance teams is recycled and redistributed to be re-used elsewhere.
We have also ensured that our trucks are low emission and are chosen and designed to fit within our environmental targets and responsibilities.
